Complete new city found in Egypt

In Luxor, the city known for famous „Kings and Queens Valley”, new ancient city was discovered. In previous years Researchers found there city dating back to the first Egyptian dynasty. In September of 2022 another works began and since then, in the first half of this year, parts of an entire new city were found. Settlement dates back to roman Times, precisely 2nd – 3rd century. City was called back then „Thebes”, name Romans borrowed from Greeks. The most interesting of architecture found there were so called „pigeon towers”. This buildings were common for ancient middle east and were used for housing pigeons. This animals used to be eaten and used for carrying messages. Apart from that there were found numerous workshops and residential buildings. In workshops many typical for early history tools were found such as pottery, water bottles and tools for grinding. Coins that were found there, were made of bronze and copper which is typical for roman civilization. Apparently this only beginning of excavations and archaeologists expect to found even more buildings and tools. This discovery can be named one of the most important this year.
