Where did mumified baboons in Egypt come from?

One of the most important gods of ancient Egypt civilization was called Thot. He was a god of knowledge and wisdom. It is a known fact that Ancient Egyptians painted ther gods as animals. Interestingly Thot was often portraid as a baboon. Scientists even discovered some baboons that were mumified. Now they wanted to find out where they came from. IN order to do this they collected samples of genes of many babbons from different regions in Africa and compared them with these of mumified baboons. It turned out that egyptian entirely came from so called "Horn of Africa" precicely - Eritrea. Now scientists speculate that this region can be historical "Punt"- region that was described by ancient egyptians as place were babboons came from. source:https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/10/231024110554.htm

We know when people Europe and Siberia were firstly populated

Near the Baikal lake in Russia traces of homo sapiens were found. These are the oldest traces of our ancestors there. Using precise dating methods scienists were able to date back these tracesw to around 50000 yeras bce. Interestingly data suggests that during that time temperatures in the region grew significantly. Data comes from pollens analisys and researchers argue that warming caused forests to expand further north and allowed early homo sapiens to arrive there. This research could change our vision of early human migrations and history. Source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/09/230922141247.htm

We finally know what people ate in the Bronze Age

Archaelogists from University of Zurich and Institute for the History of Material Culture had travelled to caucasus to do research about Bronze Age diet. They collectd proteins from samples that were collected from ancient caudrons. Using radiodeating technique researchers were able to date caoudrons to period between 3520 bce to 3350. After analizing samples they discoverred that main meal was : deers, goats, cows, sheeps and water buffalos. Results show that mst of meal was similar to that eaten by people later in history. Evidence for ritual using of human bones

In Cueva de los Mármoles, many human bones were discovered in prehistoric caves. Research was conudcted by scientists from University of Cordoba and University fo Bern. With use electron microscope archeaologists were able to spot marks made on those bones. They date back to three periods: 3800BC, 2500BC, 1400BC. Some researchesr suggested firstly that it could be signs of teeth and thus they were bones of people killed by animals. Further study however showed that bones were used as instruments. Propably people who buried their ancestors, some time later used their bones for ritual music. This strange researche shows us how much we didn't know about our ancestors yet.

Roman road network found in South West England

In counties Devon and Cornwall new road, dating back to roman times, was discovered. Research was conducted by scientists from University of Exeter. Research was done from 2016 to 2022. In orded to do that the new LIDAR technique was used. This technique allows to scan an entire piece of land by lasers and thus found gradients and flood risk which allowed to map out all of the network. This is on of the first applications of the technique proving it's effectiveness. However picture that appeared was fragmented and roads were cut by areas without any signs of transport system. Team then developed model which was based on geography and shortest connections between two points and allowed them to predict lacking parts of roads. Researches hope that better knowledge of roman railroad in south west can be useful for predicting places of uknown settlements and military bases.
